Our drive through eastern Washington reminded me a lot of Kansas! Rolling hills, open vistas, and huge farm fields and prairies. There were less corn fields, more golden grain fields, more cattle, less wind turbines, more ranch houses. Then, we came to the mountains! We went over a mountain pass and came to the Colombia River. We crossed it at the Ginko Petrified Forest National park (but didn't stop there). We did stop at a scenic overlook across from the forest, which was quite stunning. However, the wind was very strong. There was even a sign warning of very strong crosswinds. I needed to slow down to 50 (the speed limit was 70) because of the battering on the RV by the wind. Crossing the bridge over the Colombia River with that wind was a bit challenging. Fortunately, the rest of the pass through the mountains had a third lane for slow vehicles.
We are staying at the Easton RV resort, right next to the Lake Easton State Park, right along Lake Easton. The campground has access right into the park and the lake. However, while there are nice aspects to this RV park, I think it is one of the worse places we have stayed. It is old and not well maintained. We thought we were getting full hookup, and it turns out it is only water and electric. It is an RPI campground, which means that we joined an association that allows us to stay here for $10 - $12/night at any of the campgrounds in that association. But, apparently, the good spots go to the premium members of the campground, not necessarily to the associates. Oh well. It's a good staging location, from which to make day trips..
