April 11 - April 18, More life around home in New England

Last Sunday, we had a Zoom Game Day with Claire and Ian.  We set up on our big screen TV downstairs for the Zoom call, and Ian managed the Game Board on line.  It worked really well.  We saw the game board, and when it was our turn, we told Ian what and how we wanted to move, and he did it.  We played two really different kinds of games that way, and it was really fun.  And so nice to be able to spend some time with them.

I actually got made an appointment with a local hair salon, and got my hair cut and styled a bit.  Not real short, like it was when we were traveling, but shorter than it was.  I realize that the shorter it is, the easier it is to take care of.  So, maybe, when we start traveling again this summer, I might bite the bullet and go short again.

I had a really neat phone call with the woman who runs the non-profit grants committee that I sit on.  We talked about getting involved with a few groups that are actively involved in reducing carbon emissions in the air.  One group has a broad approach, supporting various methods of removing carbon from the air, and another group that focuses more on regenerative agriculture.  Both are pretty exciting in what they do.  We'll see how we can get involved and be supportive of their efforts.  I watched the full length documentary on soil regeneration called 'Kiss the Ground".  It is on Netflix, and very interesting and worth watching.

It was Shilah's Sweet 16 birthday on Wednesday.  My, my, how time does fly.  Then today, Sunday, we had an hour long Zoom call with her and Serena.  It was so delightful to chat with them both.  When we are on our weekly family calls, the kids don't get focused on very much.  And this was just them.  They share a lot, and have a lot of very interesting things to say.

It was also the day we had 3 inches of snow.  The weekend before it was in the 70's, and now again on
Sunday, the snow is all gone (thank goodness) and it's in the 60's.  Interesting to go from vibrant yellow forsythia blooms, to snow covered pansies, and back to spring time.  Ah, weather in New England.

We also went over to Tamara's to check out the RV, after being stored there since last October.  Due to the solar trickle charger that we installed, the RV started right up, the inside batteries worked immediately, and the generator started up right away.  So, all systems are a go and ready for us to take the RV to the Mercedes dealer next week for the annual tune-up and oil change, and to check it out before we do any traveling again.  It was also great to see their family, in person.

Just to mention, on one of our daily walks around our neighborhood, we decided to take a trash bag and pick up the trash along the road.  We filled up a large trash bag, just picking up the trash on one side of the road, 1 mile long.  I was amazed at how much trash people still throw out of their cars.  Lots of 1-2 ounce alcohol bottles - at least 30 of them.  It felt good to remove the trash along our walk.  We'll do the other side of the road next week.

Finally, Tamara posted some heartwarming sibling photos on Sibling Day, that I want to include.

Mar 31 - April 10, Life around home

Spring is definitely in the air, although it seems to come and go a bit.  We took another hike around the lake at the Westville Dam.  About 2 miles, easy, enjoyable hike.  Easter Sunday was very quiet.  But I did see some pics of the kids and their Easter activities.

It is really neat to see the daffodils start to shoot up, and then bloom.  The bright yellow flowers in the otherwise winter drab garden are breathtaking.  And, these daffodils are naturalizing, so they spread.  Nice.

I knitted a premie baby hat, which I had never done.  However, the NICU unit no longer takes hats, for some reason, so now I need to decide what to do with it.  Any suggestions?

I also finished one of the jigsaw puzzles that Lois sent to me.  This one looked like it would be easy, as it had many different areas, with different colors, and lines that you could match up.  However, it turned out there are only 3 different shapes of pieces.  And they actually fit nicely into spaces where they don't go.  So that added to the challenge.  But, it was fun.

I finally got my 2nd Covid vaccination.  The next day I had a low grade fever, and was really low energy.  But by the next morning I was feeling back to normal.  Yeh!

Saturday was a beautiful, sunny, warm day.  We went to Anica's and we all went for a hike on the Great Woods trail.  This trail is near their house, and turned out to be a loop trail through the woods.  And, it was a lot longer than we thought.  It was a really nice trail, with a boardwalk over a swampy area.  Quinn did a great job of leading us around the muddy areas.  Anica ended up carrying Owen for a good portion of it, and by the end Aaron's sore toe was telling him he'd walked enough.  We ended up sitting in their backyard, chatting and enjoying the sun and the day.  What a nice visit.
