Aug 19 - Avalanche Trail, Lake MacDonald cruise in Glacier National Park

Since Peter is back on his feet, we decided we could handle the 5 mile round trip hike to Avalanche Lake.  It was an absolutely gorgeous day.  We left early and got a parking space at the Apgar Visitor Center, and took the shuttle up to the Avalanche Trailhead.  We walked the Cedar Trail, which led to the Avalanche trail.  Very picturesque.  The trail to the lake was almost ALL uphill, through a cedar forest, along a stream, following a mountain ridge.  It was not an super easy hike, yet there was a constant flow of people walking it.  I was surprised how many people can handle a 5 mile hike.    The hike was worth it!  The lake was beautiful.  Surrounded by mountains, with 4 separate water falls, tumbling down the mountain side at the far end of the lake.
Once we returned to the trailhead, it felt like we'd hiked 5 miles.  We took the shuttle down to MacDonald Lake Lodge.  We had a late lunch/early dinner while we waited for the boat cruise of MacDonald lake.  It was a sweet 1 hour cruise around the lake, with narration of the lake, the fires in the park, the geological occurrences that formed the lake and surrounding areas, and some general good stories.
We then shuttled back to Apgar Visitor center, and returned back to the RV.  Since it was still light, I went over to the Super 1 grocery store in the next town over, which actually had some organic produce and a natural foods aisle.  By the time I got back, and put away the groceries, I was beat.

Did the guide mention that big flood a few thousand years ago?
