August 11 -- on to Lake Ontario, Hamlin Beach State Park

We got off to an early start, and headed toward Herkimer and I-90 West.  However, as we approached town, Peter called me to say the tire low pressure icon just came on in the Subaru.  Unfortunately, this means there is a significant problem with a tire.  Fortunately, we have learned to pay attention to those icons.  We parked the RV and took the car to a tire shop we just happened to go past a block away.  Even though they were really busy, they fit us in.  It turns out there was a nail in one of the tires, and they were able to patch it.  So, 1/2 hour and $20 later, we were on our way again.

The rest of the trip was all on I-90 West, until we headed north for 20 miles to get to the shore of Lake Ontario, and the State Park campgrounds.  I again really appreciated how incredible the highway system is in the US.  Without much trouble (usually), you can get anywhere.  Easy driving, lots of farmland with huge fields.  But it was VERY hot and humid.  Thank goodness the RV has air conditioning.  The State Park campsite is electric only, so set up was really easy.  We then walked over to the lakeshore, and found a nice shading spot to sit and read.  There was a nice breeze and the view over the lake was really nice.

What a difference the RV sites are at State Parks, versus the private RV campgrounds/"resorts".  Yes, it is electric only, but we are only here for 2  nights.  We filled up the fresh water tank before we left the last site, and our current site is right across from the clean bathroom/showers.  And, we will use the dump site on the way out.  But the biggest difference is the campsites themselves.  Ours is large, and separated from both neighbors with trees and bushes.  It's really pretty. Definitely, not an RV parking lot.  And it is a destination location, not a staging place to leave the RV and explore elsewhere.
