Sept 19 - Dead Horse Point overview hikes

Shanti needed to leave early this morning, so after breakfast, he packed up and we hugged goodbye.  What a delightful visit, and a really great opportunity to spend some quality time together.

Peter and I decided we wanted to go back to the Deaf Horse Point overview and explore it further.  We ended up walking the west rim trail for a while, and then turned around and walked the east rim trail.  Both these trails were incredible views of the panoramas looking down 2000 feet into the eroded chasms.  It showed the amazing layers of rock, that has been eroded over 250 million years.  This point juts out into the chasm, so there are views into the eastern chasm and the western chasm.  We saw the point down in the chasm of the peninsula around which the Colorado river meandered over the millennium.  On it, there is a formation of white rock, that didn't erode like the surrounding area.  The formation looks like a horse, laying on its side, thus the name Dead Horse Point.

We decided to go back in to Moab, and walk the downtown area a bit.  We sat outdoors at the local coffee house and ended up having dinner again at the Moab brewery.  As we returned to the RV at Dead Horse Point State Park, the incredibly bright full moon was just rising over the eastern view.  We stopped at the Visitor Center and enjoyed the moonlight views.
