Sept 18 - visit with Shanti, to Canyonlands and Arches National Parks

Since Shanti has never been out to these National Parks, we decided to take him to Canyonlands National Park, just down the road, and hike the Grand View Point trail, out to the overlook, that Peter and I did a few days ago and liked so much.  It was just as spectacular this time around, and we even felt a LOT more secure walking along the rim edge, with no handrails to keep you from falling the 1200 feet to the bottom of the chasm.  This hike allowed Shanti to bring Chester, his friendly big dog. We had another great hike.

After dropping Peter off at the local library in Moab, to work on his computer, Shanti and I headed over to Arches National Park, to drive through the scenic route to a few of the closer viewpoints.  We stopped at Park Ave, the Courthouse Towers area, the Balanced Rock, and then over to the Windows section.  This park only allowed dogs in the car and turnouts, but not on any of the trails.  So, I sat in the car with Chester, and Shanti did a quick hike over to the Double Arch in the Windows section.  Even so, the views from the car were still more than inspiring.

We picked up Peter, returned to the RV for dinner, at which point, it started to rain.  And, having seen one rainbow, we thought there might be another.  And, we were right.  Another incredible, beautiful, bright double rainbow.  The sunset was at our backs, and the rainbow at our fronts.

We spent the evening playing a card game, called Innovation.  A bit confusing, challenging, with a lot of luck thrown in.  And, Shanti, who had never played before, won!
