Sept 12 - East side of Olympic Peninsula, Washington

We had a short, easy drive today, down the east side of the Olympic Peninsula.  We followed the Hood Canal most of the way.  It really is a Fjord, not a canal, as it starts in Puget Sound and ends in Sheldon, Washington.  Whereas a canal connects two bodies of water.  However, the canal goes for about 35 miles.  It's wide and beautiful.
We are staying at a Sunrise Resort campground, which is an RPI campground.  The last one we stayed at, wouldn't give us a full hookup, as we were RPI members, and not Sunrise Resort members.  However, this one did give us one of their many unused full hookup site.  And, for only $10/day.  And, the setting is really beautiful.  Big sites, in the trees, nice setting.
Since we got here so early, I decided to run into town and do the laundry, since the laundry here at the campground was closed.  On the way back, I stopped at a Canal-side park, and enjoyed the view.

  1. A fjord is actually very specifically a glacially-carved inlet, with a U-shaped profile causing it to be very deep and have very steep sides. And a canal is specifically man-made, doesn't have to connect two bodies of water. But lovely location regardless of technicalities.
