We packed up the RV and headed out for Chinle, AZ. This is the closest spot to visit Canyon DeChelly National Monument. The landscape is changing again. It seems that there must be a bit more water around here, as there are actually lots of small trees and larger bushes growing in the prairies. The whole way here, we drove between mountain ranges. Huge flatish prairies, with mountain ranges on both horizons. Actually, there are mountains, then lower down there were eroded cliffs, then another prairie, then another eroded down cliff. Then, in the middle of the prairie would pop up a big rock formation. The highest ranges were greys, then as it eroded down would start with the reds, then stripes of white. Very colorful.
Since Canyon DeChelly is in the middle of the Navajo reservation, and there are NO RV campgrounds nearby, we booked a hotel room at the Best Western. We parked the RV in the parking lot of the hotel, and brought up our clothes, toiletries, and breakfast food. We haven't slept in a hotel room since way before Covid hit. Again, we are impressed with the strict enforcement of the Covid mask and cleanliness rules. They have a restaurant as part of their hotel, so we had dinner there. Feels so different not to be sleeping in "my bed".
