Oct 16 - on to Point, Texas, to Lake Tawakoni

We got an early start over to the Lake Tawakoni Thousand Trails RV campground, as William was bringing River over for a visit.  Our 125 mile, 2 hour drive, on a straight shot from West Dallas to East Dallas, all north of the city, turned into a 3-1/2 hour drive. This was due to the fact that about 30 miles on US-380 changed from a 65 mph highway to the local main road through shopping districts.  So there were stop lights almost every block, or at least every 1/3 mile.  Some of the road had speed limits of 60 mph between lights, so you could just barely speed up before you had to slow down for the light.  This must have been a fairly new expansion of Dallas suburbs, with this row of shopping between each neighborhood.  Oh well.  It was better than driving on the expressways straight through Dallas.  The rest of the way was fine.  I am surprised at how green everything is.  Green pastures, farmlands, and lots of trees.  It is still fairly flat, so you can see to the horizon, and it's all green.  Reminds me of home.

This Thousand Trails campground is one of the nicest we've been to.  It is more like a State Park campground, with lots of trees and wide RV sites.  There are several campsite loops, with many sites along the lake front.  We drove around all of the loops and finally found a site on a grassy loop, with trees, and we can see the lake in the distance.  It is so cool now, that shade is not the first priority.  Since it is the weekend, all of the sites along the water were already taken, and this is a first come first served campground.

By this time, William and River were already here.  We set up the RV and sat outside and played and chatted.  Peter finally found someone to play catch with.  Peter has carted the bag with mitts and balls around with us on every RV trip.  But, this is the first time he has actually used them.  He and William must have experience playing catch.  We also drove over to the activity center that had games and a playground.  We all had a very nice visit.

After they left, Peter and I drove over to the other side of this very large park, to the Lodge on the water.  We walked around there, out on to the fishing pier, and over to a picnic table out on a little peninsula, and just sat and enjoyed the water and afternoon sunshine.  Back to the RV for dinner and relaxation.
