Oct 11 - on to Quanah, TX

We have made it to the Texas Panhandle!  We did a one night stand at the Old Towne Cotton Gin RV park.  What I noticed most about the changing landscape as we head south-east is that it is getting greener.  One thing that amazed me was the 45 miles of continuous wind turbines;  three rows of them for 45 miles.  I actually checked the mileage.  They went of for as far as the eye can see.  This was REALLY NEAT.  Then further on, there were more.  And, I saw a solar farm.  I think it is amazing that in this area (Utah, NM & Texas,) there is so much sun and so much wind, and so much open land, yet very little wind or solar energy.  Anyways, here in the Texas Panhandle they have wind turbines.

The other thing that amazed me was the fields of cotton.  Huge fields.  No slaves picking the cotton, though.  I didn't realize that cotton could grow in Texas.  Or, how such huge fields get picked.

It took us 5 hours, with stops for lunch, gas and bathroom, to get here.  This RV park was just in the right spot on our route.  It happens to be at the site of an old Cotton mill.  Apparently, cotton has long been an important crop in this area.  The woman in the RV office took us into the old cotton mill, which is now used as an RV lounge.  They still had some of the old machinery used in the processing of the cotton.

We set up, did our walk about the campgrounds, and just relaxed for the rest of the night.  Travel days are usually a bit tiring.
