We hung out this morning, in this beautiful park, and in the afternoon went over to Dunn's Falls, a Grist Mill built 120 years ago. Nice water falls, some trails along the river, and the old mill. The best part of the story is that John Stetson, an apprentice to the mill owner, John Dunn, learned to make hats there. He later went on to open his own business making Stetson hats. We met a couple there and started chatting. He builds Love's gas stations/truck stops/convenience stores. Very interesting folks--they live full time in a 43 ft RV, going from site to site around the country, and staying there for 6-9 months.
We went to the nearest decent sized town, Meridian, and did some grocery shopping at the biggest grocery store around--WALMART!! Yuck. I haven't read so many labels in a long time.
I am surprise at how pretty the countryside is around here. Since it is one of the poorest States in the country, I expected to find more signs of poverty. Driving through the countryside there is a lot of tree farms, hillsides, some pastures, and not much else--until you approach a town periodically.
