On Friday, Aug 14th, we went up to Tamara's to retrieve the RV from its storage garage. The solar trickle charger had done its job of keeping the Mercedes battery charged, so the RV started right up. We needed to run the generator for an hour (which should be done periodically anyways) to charge up the cabin batteries. And, we sanitized the fresh water tank while we waited.
On Saturday, Aug 15th, we started repacking the RV and then went to Anica's for her birthday celebration (see prior post). On Sunday, Aug 16th, we spent the day getting ready to travel again. I did a run to the grocery store. Then, arranged the food that we would be taking, putting the non-refrigerated items in the RV, and the refrigerator ones down in the extra frig in the basement. Peter had done the laundry while I shopped, so we carried the clothes we were taking out to the RV. It is a LOT easier to pack for a week than a year, and there is a LOT more room in the RV to store it. Why, our tiny clothes closet wasn't even full! There is even an empty shelve in the the cupboard in the bathroom.
On Monday, Aug 17th, we packed up the refrigerator in the RV, and headed out by 10 am. It feels good to be back on the road. The trip to the Cape is only 2 hours, so it was an easy drive. South Dennis is in the Mid-Cape, about 2 miles from the Bay and 2 miles from the ocean. Old Chatham Road RV resort, the Thousand Trails RV campground we are staying in, is a little bit of a surprise. It is 90% seasonal, permanent RV/mobile homes, with only a few transient RVs like us. The permanent places all have built ins, patios, decks, landscaping etc. I guess a lot of folks have them as their summer homes. I guess if you want to come down to the Cape throughout the summer, it is an somewhat inexpensive way to do it. They rent the site for the year, even if he camp is only open from May - October.
We have full hookup, and we even remembered how to do it. We had a late lunch, then walked the campgrounds, and hung out a bit. It had been very cloudy and spitting rain, but cleared up around 5 pm, so we drove over to the ocean. We found a lot of town beaches, whose parking lots were only for local residents. However, they were open for the public after 4pm, so we found one and parked. There was a nice bench overlooking the beach area. We were a bit early for the sunset, but we sat and enjoyed the view for quite a while.
We came back to the RV, and had dinner. I had made several dinners before coming and froze them, so I wouldn't have to cook much, since this is my vacation too. We ended up having a late dinner, then watching the DVD movie of Billy Jack.
