Feb 5 - Trip to Sea Mammal Care Center, Korean Bell park, White Point Park, near Long Beach, CA

Some of us went a little ways up the coast from Robbie's to explore.  We first stopped at the Sea Mammal Care Center.  This is a hospital for rescued sea lions and seals.  Some are healed and released, and some can never be released back into the wild.  So, they find zoos that can take them.  Ranging from young to older, sickly to almost healed, barking and posturing, all there to watch and learn.  Very interesting.
The staff there told us of a very nearby vista and tourist site.  The Korean Bell Tower Park.  This was presented to the State in the late 60's by Korea, as a token of friendship and peace.  It is a traditional Koren bell tower, beautifully done and positioned on a hill overlooking the coastline.  It was built on the site of an old coast guard artillery installation, at old Fort MacArthur.
Next we ventured a bit further up the coast to White Point Park.  It has a beautiful walkway along the bluff, overlooking the ocean, and also down along the rocky beach.  While we were there, they were also filming a car commercial.  Only in California.
Back into Belmont Shores for our last meal together.  We also finished the NY Times jigsaw puzzle.  Just in time!  Everyone will be leaving tomorrow.
What a delightful week with family.
