Feb 14 - Sun City and Cave Creek, AZ

Lou was scheduled to volunteer at the local bird sanctuary this morning, so Jan & I went along with him.  The sanctuary is located in a subdivision, in a home at the end of a cul de sac, with a large yard.  The many cages of birds are in the garage, the den, the backyard, and an outdoor set of cages.  They heal birds and release them, if they can, or keep them, if they can't.  The owners also have a machine shop in another garage on site.  Busy place.  Lou's job is to help change the paper at the bottom of the cages and replenish the bird food.  And, pet and coo to the birds as he is doing it.  Jan calls him a bird whisperer.  He is great with all of the animals.  Oh, and there were also some rescued sheep wandering around the property.
We then took a boat ride in his pontoon boat around the lake.  It was a beautiful day and a delightful relaxing ride.  The lake has many different inlets, all around it, allowing it to have 143 houses lakeside.
In the afternoon, we picked up their friend, Mimi, and all went to the nearby town of Cave Creek.  This is known for their galleries.  We stopped at the Rare Earth Gallery, which was phenomenal.  Incredible art made from gems, stones, glass and rocks.  My geologist daughter, Claire, would love this place.
We had dinner at a nice restaurant with an outdoor seating area, overlooking a little pond.  It was nice, but once the sun went down, it got really chilly.  Thank goodness they lit the flame-heaters.
