We left these beautiful foothills (nice to visit, but I wouldn't like to live here) and traveled back over to the California coast. The route took us through some incredible passes, on Rt 146, and then through some amazing farm lands and finally massive vineyards. I couldn't believe the farms. I guess this is what agri-business farms look like. They went on for miles and miles. 3 foot wide raised beds, with a groove in between, and squared off edges, running in absolutely straight lines. I kept thinking "what would those early farmers walking behind a plow say to this?" And then the vineyards. Again, as far as the eye could see, up and down the hillsides. Then we hit US-101, and along the way, I saw an oil field. There must have been a hundred oil wells in a rather small area, and even up on the top of the foothills. Never seen so many in one area.
We took Hwy 46 from US-101 over to Hwy 1. This road went up over an amazing mountain pass, with vistas on both sides of the road.
All in all, a nice travel day. Although, we stopped along the way in Paso Robles, to pick up another prescription at Walmart for Peter and had lunch. By the time we got to our campsite in San Simeon State Park, it had been a long travel day. Setting up camp this time meant leveling the RV, and putting out the mat and chairs, as there are NO hookups at all. This is a nice park, right next to the ocean, at the south end of Monteray Bay, near Hearst Castle. We ended up just relaxing for the remainder of the day. Heated up leftovers for dinner, walked the campgrounds, played a new card game called Golf, and read.
No photos today.
