The trip over to the Lemon Cove RV campgrounds was quite nice. What made it remarkable was the changing landscape. From the coast on Highway 1, we crossed the foothills going east, back over to Highway 101. This was the road, sometimes on the crest of the foothills, that travelled through vineyards. The vineyard estate houses were quite nice, and the vineyards many and vast. Then, continuing east on Highway 46 east, we went through huge agribusiness citrus groves. Citrus groves as far as the eye could see. There were canals for irrigation all along the road, with signs that said "Create more Dams, Save California water", and "Dams Grow Food". Must be a story there.
Then, we hit the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, again blanketed all in yellow grasses. Smooth-looking mountains. Finally, we came to Highway 198, going up to the Sierra Nevada mountains. These have huge rocky outcroppings. I'm told the Sierra Nevada mountains have the tallest mountains in the US (three 14,000 footers). The temperature in the campground is a sunny high 60's, low 70's. But the area is very dry, and yellow.
The foothills area around the campground all has citrus groves, plus olive groves, pomegranates, and others that I couldn't identify. The campground is small, but nice, and sparsely populated --this being late fall, and all.
