Here's a recap of the month of June, 2022:
June 4 - we went to watch Quinn's final soccer game of the season. What fun.
Then, in the afternoon, we went to Polar Park in Worcester to watch the WooSox play a baseball game against the Yankee's minor league team. We had won tickets for the game from our local fuel oil dealer. The park was new, easy to get to, easy to park, and all of the seats had good viewing. What a difference from the experience of going to a game at Fenway park in Boston. And, I couldn't tell the difference between the minor league game skills and a major league team's skills. It was an exciting game, it was tied 7 to 7 at the bottom of the ninth inning, the WooSox were up, and they hit a home run! Not sure I'd pay to go again to a game, but it was fun.
June 9 - 12 - We attended the annual meeting of the American Friends of Lafyette, held this year at West Point, NY. We stayed right in West Point Military Academy, at the Thayer Hotel. The Academy is right on the Hudson River on a bend in the river, making it a good place to guard the river in hostel times. We learned a lot about the revolutionary war, and West Point's significant part in it from a tour guide. The guide also showed us all around the campus and museum. And, we did a tour of a few places Lafayette visited while staying there. This is a group of very interesting, knowledgeable folks from all over. There were 96 who attended the weekend. Actually, the theme of this weekend centered on the life of Lafayette's wife, who also led an interesting life.
We drove a longer, more scenic route home. We stopped at the Storm King State Park, which is a ridge that overlooks the Hudson River. And, we took some local roads that followed along the River. We found the Milton-on-the Hudson Station, an old RR station that is now a little park, right on the shore. Finally, we stopped at the Saugerties Lighthouse. You follow a mile long trail out to a point on a peninsula in the Hudson River. Very windy, but beautiful views.
June 18 - When we picked up our RV from the dealer that had it all winter and spring for a short list of minor repairs, we then took it to the Mercedes dealer to have some recalls addressed. It turns out that when they did that, they needed to reset the engine's computers. As a result, the system that monitors the exhaust needed to recalculate, and as it turned out, that took over 500 miles to do so. What that meant was that it wouldn't pass inspection. First they said it needed 100 miles, then 300 miles, and finally 500 miles did it. Consequently, we did some local traveling in the RV to put on the miles. One trip was to the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, MA, right near the border between MA and NY. It was on the beautiful estate, high in the hills. The exhibit of Norman Rockwell's work was very interesting and extensive. He actually lived here and worked out to the studio here, during his later years. Very interesting. And, finally, the RV did pass inspection.
June 24 - Time to put the RV up for sale. We listed it on various RV sale internet sites, and we took the RV over to Tamara & Mike's to park it along the very busy Route 116 with a big For Sale sign. As it turned out, several folks did call us as a result, but no bites. After setting it up there, we went across the street and drove up to the top of Mt Sugarloaf. Beautiful view of the valley all around. And Tamara and kids walk to the top! We needed to drive. We picked up some take out at Bueno Y Sano, down the road from Tamara's and ended up eating it at the Quabin Dam Reservoir. Delightful site on a beautiful day.
